Hard steel wire is named according to its carbon content, diameter, mechanical properties and application. JIS G 3521 classifies them into SW-A, SW-B and SW-C. The hardness of the wire is determined by the amount of carbon content, with the minimum carbon content being 40C and the maximum being 80C.
